Meet Maya
Hey there! Welcome to my bio page :)
I always thought I was going to be a teacher when I grew up. Since childhood, I was drawn to helping others, with a deep passion for learning and expanding my knowledge of the world around me. This drive for school led me to pursue a Mathematics and Astronomy degree at the University of Texas at Austin and become a tutor for my peers.
During my time at UT, however, I came to realize that a future in teaching STEM didn’t feel right to me, and I took it as an opportunity to explore other potential career paths. I attended classes centered around women’s and gender studies to deepen my understanding of our existing society and the ways people experience it differently from me. I joined organizations to support families in the Austin area as they faced various medical, social, and interpersonal challenges. My first job post-graduation was as a Registered Behavior Technician, which introduced me to the working world of healthcare.
These collective experiences, along with my own personal health journey, have helped me acknowledge the ways mental health is often left unaddressed when going through medical challenges and shown me how crucial holistic healthcare is as a practice. Together, they have fueled my desire to pursue a career within the mental health field to help bridge this gap. I am now in the process of applying to graduate school for Clinical Mental Health Counseling!
In my free time, I am often found opening up the latest addition to my book collection. I am an avid reader, an amateur crocheter, and I adore putting together a good puzzle or playing a board game with my friends and family. Music is my constant companion, and I love to get lost among the treasures of an antique or thrift store.
